so i was cleaning up my room and found my ibook chillin under my desk with a dead battery. sad so i charged it up cursed a bit as the system clock problems went away. then found that my ibook was horribly out of date. did some apple updates, then remembered that Tiger is out so i need to russle up a copy of that and check it out. I also have linux installed on the ibook, after a few hours trying passwords for the root i finally got in. a old copy of gentoo from 2003. yuck, it was a fun idea that mike and i had back in the day. but i don't like gentoo. growing up with mandrake/redhat i had to go back to it somehow. well redhat and mandrake all went the way of the dino. so time for a new distro. i remember reading about Yellow Dog Linux back in 2000 and figured it must be good now if its still around. after all they are PPC as the primary platform. Also i found out that mandrake stopped the PPC at 9.0

so after some light reading i downloaded the 4 cd’s (ouch) and installed them out. still running osX.3 as a secondary partition and now YDL as primary. Also been a while since i used X windows. read a little on the new KDE/GNOME well i hate KDE i cant stand the user interface and think anyone who likes linux for its KDE needs a refresh in the fact that a computer is supposed to be EASY to use. not something you have to konquer! so gnome it is. as a side note i read a few things where people criticise the fact that people need a GUI for linux saying “go back to the console” wtf where are you from, thats what i expect to hear from a 78yr old Professor at Princeton. sure console is for things but you dont work in a telnet session all day. and if you do …HAHA (i’m a nerd)

anyway so i download cd’s and pop them in and choose install i also found this nice looking “install” pdf and mostly printed it out because i was trying to figure out the page numbers then realised its a little bind yore own book. well i just wanted to make my own book so i printed it and stapled it into a cool little linux install book i never really looked at the contents but i do have a nice book

the install is what i remember of my early linux days, just cleaner the install is now fast and concise, there is no crap and it dont look like GNOME .9 anymore i like that. some package picking installing all the compilation tools since thats about all i need a linux tool for. that and WEP cracking.

after first boot there is a config menu just like windows, i like this, congrats YDL team.  very easy setup they dont make the network card setup part of all this, i had to do this by experience and not a wizard. then using YUM i updated the whole distro, installed firefox and BAM now i go play with tiger.

Tiger! ok so other then the new SMB support i have no care for the new product. it broke 2/3 of the applications i use on OSX – broke VPC,VPN other then that nothing eventful. If you care then you dont read my blog for this type of news anyway.

i thought about making some how-to on the subject matter but there is more then you need out there, if you ahve a Q comment back – holla’

ok time for another vampire movie. don't know what the thrill is, they start this movie off by saying that all the other vampire movies are bullshit. well this new one has at least a new style of story but its just the same essentially. i did like the title sequence unlike i have seen for a while. what i didn't like was the first 20 mins of bad stunts and crappy CGI looking $imdb(fast and furious) car stunts. but then every now and then $imdb(blade trinity) would surprise you with some awesome stunts, there is some sword play in the last scene that is great! how is it that most bad guys and all bad creatures are well versed in the art of kung-fu or something else? this movie seemed short even though it was 2 hours so i guess thats good, no slow story line. i am torn however the bad stunts and sort of lame story here and there and the combined marvel production with some great stunts. This movie gave me a feel of $imdb(gone in 60 seconds) at some times as well.

if i had to choose a vampire movie $imdb(Underworld) gets my choice but this would get #2

so i watched the original movie from back in 1980 something. This remake was actually worth the time and effort. Rogue Pictures which is a spin off of Focus Films, brought us such great movies as $imdb(Shaun of the Dead) and is making the upcoming $imdb(Unleashed) with Jet Li so they are a promising looking production company (to to mention the mother ship focus films great work) anyway production company’s aside.

$imdb(Assault On Precinct 13) was a great movie remake. i mean the story is obviously reused and the original movie was good but was slow and drug out like most older movies. This new version they tightened up the story line and had new believable scenarios for the 2005 culture. i dont want to talk a lot about the movie it might ruin some of the suspense that keeps you attached to the screen. for a new era action movie this one gets my thumbs up. it wasn't the same old slash and bang we see from Vin, and Keanu every Friday.

ok i couldn't not share this one. if you know me you prolly know how much i like hacked xbox’s well the Xbox2(360) is coming out soon and i just found this commercial for the next madden. Even if you dont play video games. go watch this. and remember its a computer game. all computers. makes me wonder what in the world madden 2010 is gonna be.

other xbox360 news if you didn't know, it will be backward compatible for “top selling games” what ever that means. Here is a cool video about the making of it. and the press release

who will offer the $100,000 challenge to hack the xbox 360 like they did xbox? depending on the price for the unit (350est) i might buy one when the full spec is released if the tivo ability is there. and the backwards game actually work for games i own. if they are hackable and i can play mario duck hunt from my xbox 360 oh yea!

EDIT 5/18/2005

jsut in from a major chip maker:

We are also heaving into Xbox 360 background development. We pretty much understand all the software side of things now - all we need now is the hardware - which will be sooner than it hits the shelves we assure you Wink

I must comment on what i think is the best show ever to be on TV i just got Scrubs Season one on DVD today (always buy form buy.com and you get it a day early. they are awesome amazon sucks) anyway i want to comment on how one TV show not only is funny but has some of the best social commentary that i have ever seen. just watching the pilot and i laughed as much as i do on a season 4 show. gotta love a show that can keep it gold from day one. i did think that the pilot was the the best i have ever seen not only keeping 100% true to the whole series but outlining what they have done all along. if you haven't ever watched the show catch it next season they seem to be wrapping it up i can see the plot line go to a end. I just hope if they end this story they start a new one with the same cast seriously people, if my life were a tv show i would let it be this one.

not to mention zach braff the only (guy) actor i would like to actually meet in real life, your asking which girl actor i am gonna pull a crazy ass one out of the hat and say Larisa Oleynik no offence to paris hilton she did get us to NY for free. She was my crush back in the day of good nickelodeon when it actually owned every channel in the world, you want to debate that? come on Pete and Pete, rin and stimpy, double dare, that agro crag, dude if i could bring back one thing from the 80’s and early 90’s it would be nickelodeon at its prime. in this post i have summed up the only things i actually loved in television history and present day. oh yea and loony toons, pee-wee, and A-Team and Knight rider, felix the cat –  just to name a few more. man i miss the days before reality TV and “desperate housewives” …sigh

Friday: went to Redmond ran into mikes sister and harassed her then watched life aquatic went to beths at 4am.

Saturday: woke up at 9am did stuff. got the crew and went to sushi then walked around bellevue hung out at 7–11 and watched some kids try and buy some smokes. then saw a prom doofus and his girl she was drinking wine out of the bottle in the car they were all like 15–18 it was weird. then went to horias to watch SNL i slept thru the whole thing

noticed the google ads are now popping up stuff for fishing after the movie review. things like “spear fishing gear” thats cool i clicked the link it wasn't cool. but at least the word spearfish is coming up. on a side note i think google ads might be crashing the site a lot. also i had to fill out w2 information with google. and after 167 something looks or clicks from last Thursday when i installed it. i have made .27 cents to date. at this rate it will be over a year to get 100$ then they tax that so my advice for this service on my page. i think it might be pulled, but i will give it a month, keep clicking and making me cents.

finally getting around to catching up on netflix. $imdb(The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) wanted to get to the theater to see this one but didnt. here i am today with the dvd. first off is the 2+ hours worth it you ask? if you didnt like $imdb(The Royal Tenenbaums) then my review is you wont like this dont even bother. If you like RT then you will enjoy this movie. dont know how else to review this one. It looks wonderful, the sets and the color on the screen is marvelous. The plot line …if there is one is sort of fun and different since its just some people a simi story and such weird events and strings of story that they end up with some cool and fun looking scenes to shoot. i liked it but it was long.

Thats what you will read on all the BitTorrent Sites. Thanks to the MPAA they decided to kick some ass on the remaining sites claiming illegal download TV shows. Uhg if its not one thing is another. I checked and 99% of the sites are dead. The one that isnt “PirateBay” well they are getting dDoS by either use of hackers with only one site left to use or the MPAA. someone invent something new. Seriously i dont watch tv for commercials i watch it for the shows. What this means for you? well movies, programs and Tvshows have no good source but IRC now. and we all know how nice IRC rooms are.

in other news via /. a ipod explodes this was a good read with quotes like “unclear what the teenager had ingested” “scooted out and helped save the rest of Melbourne” other audio related a laser-record player man if i had 20 grand i would buy this… not kidding.

i was able to purchase the stereo for my car today the Pioneer AVH-P7600DVD its not even on the Pioneer.com site but i have it by Thursday next week, after that the car is done. Now what will i work on?

after some work on MattMcGs parents house DSL – i installed the current westell modem  man i wish i was still with verizon that modem had every feature that you can imagine in a wireless dsl router. its actually amazing it comes with a stats program and everything built in, if your with verizon and dont have something cool call and ask for a upgrade because yore speed is not great and your neighbour just got the new modem and it helped them. then i got a chance to stop and say hi to conor who dont see much even though he is back in the 425. He just got a new job and a new car it smells like coconuts. he comments a lot on the site.

on the way home from work today a rock pelted my car windshield and now i need a new windshield. the first thing that went in my head was …at least it didn't hit the paint.
