Woah talk about a surprise movie, this was awesome. I dont know much history about where this came from but $imdb(Kung Fu Hustle) was super cool. All i can say is if you like Kung Fu movies from the past 10 years this one needs to be watched its fun! so put on the required amount of flair and sit back for some kung-foolery

basBlog went from RC to “1.8 Gold” today. I was awake and slightly bored so I upgraded my whole server (meaning that if you host with me your also now 18k-gold) Jon informed me of the code punch to source forge. I even upgraded Eli’s blog even though his only posts include “OHH so sorry been a long time since I posted anything”

Now that I am up and running a non test version i will be further investigating, the comment hacking I saw, Jon is also having issues with a magic black list referrer that he cant evade.

Don't know if the comment macros are now “gold” as well, I did tool around the source for a bit  looks like the comments about “possible unstable” are gone so it must be ok.

now even if the state of Washington wants to stop me from driving.

I just found that my favourite car show in the world is now on Discovery Channel

Top Gear if you dont know is a British show about cars, real cars. Seriously. They do most 200k$ cars but they also work with real cars. This show is awesome. and yes Jon and Eli the camera angles are what makes it worth while – its awesome! make sure you get time to watch it at 10pm

If you have ever wanted a car, your missing out on everything if you miss this show.

One thing i notice is they cut out all the fun banter, they have less commercials in UK – go download a show to get the real feel.

Playing with DasBlog I noticed from Omars Blog that he is using the Blog Stats that I requested from the Sourceforge site then realised that its just not well documented. so hopes with this post that that can at least be on google.

So dasblog features to have Blog Stats was fixed by just looking around the Macros.CS (source script) and finding the macro

<%blogStats()%>

This macro will return your current stats (see the “about” section on this page for a example)

Another Macro for dasBlog is that you can return the popular Titles of the top trackback etc. (it appears still a little unstable)

<%popularList(3,20)%>

/remarks (from .cs) The resulting data is cached in memory for 8 hours, as popularity of posts doesn't change THAT much, and updating 3 times a day seems more than reasonable.

Note that each of the listed macros might be unstable past the hundreds of posts and appears like its still not a stable part of the code but its in there for the script kiddys like me to find. BOoo yea for open source .net

also Jon couldnt figure this out but here is the macro for the “Choose Theme” drop down.

<%newtelligence.aspnetcontrol("themecombo.ascx")%>

Upgraded to newtelligence dasBlog 1.8.5210.0 its feature list is here, if you host your blog with me I will upgrade you as soon as the code is “gold” (this is still RC1)

A feature I requested made it into the source! (pre dating and post dating blog posts) this will be handy to add content to my blog but not make it front page. This little blog is becoming powerful! now i just need community server to release a new 1.2 for my photo album and my little microspinoff site is all new and fresh!

Also you as the reader why do you care about this new release, well I went in and redid my theme finally for a upgrade that was required. With that i put google ads back on the site as well as made “change theme” option for you to read my blog in the personalised way. Some of the themes have some wonkyness, over time I might customise them but that just means more work to upgrade code. so have fun. and remember C is for Cookie.

If your here Via a search engine and you are using this, or looking for support for dasBlog then please remember to support the dev team so that there is continued progress on the blog we all use! Donate

$imdb(wedding crashers) was a funny ass movie. rated R for some token nudity it movie is funny as hell. i laughed through the whole thing. The story and crappy romantic comedy i didn't like. I did really like the on screen dynamics with owen wilson and $imdb(Rachel McAdams) she was the “good girl” in the movie which is different from her $imdb(mean girls) role. oh yea throw in the word Divx and Torrent for easy google hits.

So I just pulled down a copy of Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 1 and thought, Share this with my mostly non nerdy Blog Readers! Fun for you. Google Hits for me. Here ya go…

Install:

After loading my DVD into a ShuttleX system with a IntelRaid and booting I got a BSOD so I rebooted yeah! it works with some crappy video support. Then i put in my key, and found my USB floppy drive and put my intel disk into the drive. Still no go. Seems like the beta forgot that people dont install floppy disks anymore. But never fear microsoft finally did something amazing. They allow you to pull OEM drivers from CD/DVD/USB thats right! so i burnt out a CDROM with my 300k of drivers and hit next. Now this was cool, the Install allows you graphically edit your partitions, with options to expand come along way from TXTMODE in 2003. I named my PC and step one of install was done (two step process)

Here is where the funny business started. I went to “installing windows” That was as far as it went the box just sat there. 10 mins later

Reboot – Try three of install. enter that damn key again.

This time I tried something different. I put the OEM cdrom in the computer and loaded the intelraid. Then i hit format after i partitioned then i pulled out the OEMcdrom and put back in the VistaDVD before hitting next, this seems to have “fixed the glitch” microsoft if your reading i also would like to see a better representation that the “install” is installing. Or a time countdown. I like countdown that actually have no real bearing on linear time in the real world. Give me some lame ass “whats new” in this version or something. It appears to also utilise a RAM disk during install.

On a P4/2Ghz it took about 10 mins to install reboot then it did a bunch of stuff (install drivers and PnP) where a annoying progress bad just went from 0–100% over and over again. My video support was now normal so thats a relief. There is a spinning sand timer icon for the mouse that is a close resemblance to win98plus. 10–15 later it reboots again.

FIRST BOOT:

Video is messed up again, there is a “supplemental drivers install” not working yet, but some day it might its cool they allow driver install first thing.

You can go else where for a review of the GUI enhancements. I personally dent care for them. Windows2000 has the best GUI that i ever would want. I didn't even bother with the new theme I put it right back to 2000classic. Then i promptly joined a domain so that my normal security and “pro” features would come to life. Yea…. lets just say this beta isn't Domain ready yet. so much for switching to my primary desktop as beta. I also dont like the “user switching” at all, this is XPHome. Back to GUI notes, i dont like the html look to every window but that can be shut off. and the task bar isnt auto showing user switching or logoff. They do have this cool view to show you how full a disk is in my computer. Thats nice. It took me about 10 mins to set up all the graphical settings to get it back to a 2000 look that “admins” like.

Other thoughts.

I noticed they have iSCSI support that is cool, there is a bunch of cool progression enhancements that make the os cool. Like the ability to edit the path in explorer on the fly. I can get it to blue screen every time from hibernation. anything else new i will post.
