built me a pirate radio station – got a kit from here then hacked on it a bunch with some parts from vetco. Came out with this. I am having issue with the antenna so right now i can get about 2 blocks from home. I expect to be able to get 1 mile i just cant figure out my antenna stuff at the moment.

Fmtransmitter

The things i wanted to accomplish were setting the unit up in a portable box as well as getting more durable buttons for the menu system. To prolong life and keep it running happy i also wanted to get some active cooling in place to allow the transistors to keep nice and cool as well as the power amp. Mission accomplished now all i need is to get the transmitter transmitting at a solid 3w

where to start on the movie $imdb(Saved). I think first i just want to say that it actually is enough against my Christian beliefs that i will say that i thought it was a ‘F’ as in i will not watch this movie or ever consider it much again. While macally culkin was surprisingly not as creepy as i remember and mandy more’s acting isnt as good as her disney movies. There was one line in this movie that turned me off. They say that the bible is not a weapon. In the movie they are referring to throwing the bible as a blunt object – thus saying its not a weapon. The fact that they chose the exact line “this is not a weapon [holding bible]” made me unhappy with this movie. Last time i remember studying stuff the “bible is our only weapon” so with that i leave this movie in the interesting but i have 100% dislike. I have found a link that backs up my beliefs on the matter.

aside from that – the movie was just not that great, jsut a movie (bad one) and one that you would aside from the christian attacks forget in 5 min.

where else to write a book then next to a $imdb(Swimming Pool) This movie is slightly un climatic and outcome is a “twister” however its not all original (well it came out a few years back so to say that is not 100% fair – for coming up with this twist.) after watching $imdb(mulholland drive) it is going to take a lot to twist me any more.

This movie was average. acting sucked, lots of nude shots, and a swimming pool- that tied it all together in a way that i didnt fancy. All in all this movie might have been good the day it came out but a few years later we have come to expect more and better things from this genera. worth watching if you got it for free with mulholland drive otherwise, eh.

$imdb(resident evil apocalypse) i didnt know anything about this movie and when it turned out to be about zombies i must say i was a little taken aback. Its weird, sort of 28 days / vampirekiller/underworld bad ass chick kicking ass. Other then that the only thing i really walked away from remembering was the R rating was funny for ‘non stop violence and language with some nudity thats a funny rating. The nudity was lame they could have cut it and had the movie be just as good. But then it would have been PG13 and it wouldn't sell. pathetic.

i dont know what i have to say about $imdb(Little black Book) other then it was a little boring. Actually it sucked. I dont know if it was the lack of a plot, the fact that they half ass told a story or that it was a horrible story. When people say “life isnt like the movies” this is the type of movie they reference. This movie sucked.

Today I learned something new about Internet Explorer

Have you ever had the problem when you cant save .jpg’s in IE? all you can save is .bmp files? (right click on a image and all that is available is save as .bmp) the reason for this is because your Internet Explorer cache is full. To fix this just clear your cache and you can safe images as .jpg again.

Why is this? because when they wrote IE they wanted it as fast as possible so when the cache is full it will not cache the jpg to HDD but just to memory. It caches to memory in bmp format. That is why you can only save as bmp. So by clearing the cache you again save all images to disk and are able to once again save as jpg.

so yesterday we went on a field trip (pops and me) to Icom Radio we were looking at some display units in the corporate office when a guy was like “hey wanna see our ham shack” now this is possibly the most nerdy thing that you can ever say. But being that we were at Icom of all places you might as well take the time to look.

Icom

taken with my cell phone here is just a small snippet of the room. they have every production radio up and running in this room along with the elusive 7800 radio which i found out costs 10 grand! The guy didnt even know how to really use it, he played with a smaller version of it. Not bad for a days adventures, even if the nerd scale is off the charts.

well since i had 2003 up and running figured adding exchange 2003 back in. It was a real fast fwd setup using MSFT’s Documentation i did download the new SP1 deployment tool. Applied the SP1. The one trick that i didn't know of that JonA helped with is the “Internet Mail Wizard” that sets everything up for you. After that was just the lockdown of exchange and using the “best practice tool” in conjecture with the “MBSA” i also put on URLscan. I think i am all done with server install/config for 2003 at the moment. Now SQL 2005 is it worth the install….

Learned: Internet Mail wizard = quick setup – and to install Exchange2003 you need the ‘default web site’ that comes with IIS on install, if you dont have that you need to uninstall IIS reinstall IIS then add your site config back into the metabase manually then install e2k3 i tried for 3 hours to figure a way around it and could not.

I just logged into msn to see “Christian groups ban Sponge bob” thinking hrm that sounds like the work of the south where winchester collections are greater then silverware. I think this article deserves some credit… it has some hilarious quotes….

“groups have issued a gay alert warning “ (is this the white-power version of the home land terrorist warning?)

Winnie the Pooh wasn't wearing pants either” (his name was also pooh)

“Tinky Winky, the purse-toting purple Teletubbie, was in 1999 declared a homosexual role model “ (however spell check changes “tinkey winkey” to kinky-kinky)

what a crock… who are the people that put this crap into the public? more to the point why arnt we focusing on bert and ernie? they do at least share a bed.

so i saw $imdb(Saw) uhh… lets say this writers favourite movie of all time ever was $imdb(se7en) this movie was not as visually stunning as seven, didnt make me gasp as much but it was damn close. If you enjoy that movie you will enjoy this. I had no idea what it was about going into it and was pleased that i could not see then plot outline in my head the whole time. However succumbing to the “i see dead people” curse you watch this movie once or twice and you have seen it all. Note that i did have a “pirate” copy so it did look poor in places due to compression but there was no visually stunning colors that i noticed from my crappy copy. I mean at least the village looked good on film. but i’m not gonna say no to this one, if the goreish twisted thriller is your game its worth a rental or a dvd purchase of under 12.99

just downloaded the new Daft Punk CD dont feel much about it. I mean you cant ever deny that Homework was the best cd this one is much like Discovery more of a sound from ‘robot rock’ or just crazy 808’s running beeps and boops. its still good, i mean i can listen to it and not get annoyed – actually about 3 tracks are rather catchy. there is one about technology that has a fun background vocal. over all i say buy it when it comes out if you own the others. but dont expect a Homework. I personaly like the other two more then this one. If your interested in Daft Punk get the Homework cd before you delv into electronica music with this one.

Edit: 2/6/05

After reviewing this cd for a length of time, i gotta say its growing on me. Daft Punk as a 2nd look is just as good as the rest. In a tie with discovery. The base on this CD is actually enough to pop breakers.

today i got a letter from my local pyrotechnics group telling me that the CPSC is after the people that i buy chemicals from. turns out they are now trying to shut down the hobby of making your own fireworks. Now i am not normally one to care about government affairs, but i need to step up from my i-dont-care-ican role to a soap box for a moment. I understand they they just want to keep people like me from making M-80’s and blowing up stumps. My problem is that people like me that do it safely (relative term) are being screwed by the man for people that are insane. it just sucks. what are we supposed to do for fun if they take away all hobbies? cant play with my little 80mph motor bike, cant make rocket fuel for my rocket and cant make m-80s. Now i do enjoy watching something blow up, there is something satisfying about mixing up some dust and then lighting it on fire to feel it in your chest. Its not for everyone but its for me. What are people going to do in 5 years? play golf and read books?

part of the CPSC’s argument is that post 9/11 we need to watch people who provide chemicals for bad things. well what a crock, i saw two kids mix Isopropyl Alcohol and pool chlorine lets start banning chemicals like that as well, what about aspirin you can make a great bomb out of that. Remember the kids that blew up a port-a-potty with sparklers then Komo was good enough to air not only how to make a sparkler bomb but also showed the video footage just so that kids at home know how cool it was. This people – is what is ruining my fun. Because acts like Komo’s in-discretion for proper media you can now only buy 1 package of sparklers at a time and are limited at most places to 10 packs. because of komo kids this year will try to get lots of sparklers and light them wrong and it will blow up in their face, or they will put it near grass and it will burn down my house.

I enjoy that the media is allowed to show things like this on TV (sarcasm) why not let kids learn slowly and start with the good old dry ice bomb and then move to things like this – it brings a larger thing to mind while i am here …on this soapbox…. have you ever noticed that the rating system in USA vs UK. i have always found it interesting that a R rating here will allow for death on screen with a graphical gunshot to the head. desensitizing youth to violence and things like that are unacceptable in the UK. However in the UK nudity is nothing more then advertisement, but in the USA nudity will not be tolerated to the least bit?

Put some boobs in a movie its NC-17 but if you allow Arnold to blow up some saudies and you see brain fly its only R. What happened USA?

ok now back to i-dont-care-ican

Now playing: Daft Punk - human after all  (thats right this isn't released till march 1st and i have it!!!)

another week starts… i am glad this night shift is coming to a end soon – i dont like to do things at day then go back to night, its very quiet at night. i went thru some old links today while waiting for some servers to build out. one is found photos its fun. some dudes has a web crawler that just takes pictures off your page and p2p programs. then they just choose random ones and post them on line. its a cool ‘art’ from the internet.

today is also the worst day this year, so far its going ok for me. unless your this guy  also looks like they figured out the end of the world

saw a good verse to memorise Mark 5 11

i missed $imdb(arrested development) sunday so i am downloading it now. WHo needs Ti-vo when you have bit torrent?

they also jsut released a new map/software for the navigation in my car. I have been waiting for a while for this. They finally updated the phone number database and made the east coast and west coast separate discs …like most navigation software. This is cool it means that it will be more detailed – they also updated the map to the GRMS data as of Q42004 so all the roads will be on there. I have noticed that most of new Redmond you are just driving in the dark. people like peter are keeping my car smart!

so i spent all day moving my server under the house and got everything all set up nice and clean. i am back up 100% all domains are running and things are good. Lets hope for no hardware failure for a while.

I did open my Christmas present from the duces that arrived in the mail today its a Wham-O Peeps Maker they know me well. Nothing is better on this earth then a 4 month old peep. (you know when you let them dry out and they are squishy?) OH YEA! so i haven't gotten around to making peeps yet. this 2003 mess has been keeping me very busy. but i have a weekend off this weekend. I dont believe i am going to go anywhere. I am sort of tired and would like to be 100% gone of this cold before i travel out into the world. next weekend i think a b-ham trip is in order. its been a while since i seen the people up there.

I got another parking ticket today. this week i have been staying later and this is #2 that is 70$ i owe Seattle. so far i haven't paid them, i put them on my to do list. I figure i will look at them for a while before paying that nasty fine.

its odd how it was hot today – this must be the global warming. well with that … i am off to watch some $imdb(Initial D) so that i can get the movies off to corene so that she can catch up on them. we are totally hooked on this anime show about street racing. she turned me on to it and i cant put it down. thanks to netflix i dont have to! boo yea for that. On that note i will post out for the day on the note of Darth Tater and leave you with this…

so i am in the process of upgrading my domain from 2000 to 2003. I got new hardware that its all ready for 2003, – 53 critical updates needed to get it patched up to date! now that i have the server set my role out plan is as follows (thanks colinR for the guidance)

  • 2003 joins 2000 domain
  • Install DHCP, WINS, DNS, FILE/PRINT on new 2003 and disable on 2000
  • adprep my 2000 AD controller - on 2000 with 2003 adprep files
  • wait a long time…. then run the AD installation wizard on the 2003 box….wait a long time…reboot
  • move the FSMO
  • Move the GlobalCatalog…reboot..remove the GC from 2000 …check your event logs
  • dcpromo the 2000 box

as a side note i would like to note that DNS setup is amazing on 2003, the DNS wizard has come a long way from 2000. One thing i noticed was the new error/help system when you run into a failure the windows help is amazing they re did it all with the new erra termnalogy replacing words like “802.1” with “Your DSL connection” and just a general upgrade in all help/wizards. 2003 can be installed by a total nube if you use all the wizards 100%

today was a average slow day, set up two printers one was right out of the box from dell. I spent over a hour trying to get the paper tray to work, i thought i was a idiot. then i shook it real hard and some plastic fell out. i was scared i broke it but then i realised that that plastic was keeping it from working all along, so after 10 mins more of some bending and popping i got the plastic slide thing back into place. stupid dell printers.

not much else to report i worked on a lot of CSS sheets and made the .com a little more fung shoey added the ability for you users at home to choose a different skin for the blog (see bottom of page) and cleaned up some code for the Photo gallery section.

I also bought a digital camera a Sony DSC W1 now that i have the digital means to share pictures i wanted to get the camera. I got the black one to be stylish. I will post a review of it when i actually get it. Got it form some place in main for $50 less then what i saw around the area here. It got great reviews, while i was waiting for a doctor yesterday i went to kits camera asked what a college age kid that breaks stuff should have as a camera, she said that one without thought. Quinn – who actually has influenced more shit that i have bought then anyone else also said its a good one based on his seeing someone play with it over the weekend.

SuperSusan is now part of the blogging world, she is super so you will prolly get smarter by reading it. something like eating wheaties to run faster.

A topic i’m sure that we all share interest in is quantum mechanics and quantum computing. i just read a article on the advances in computing – interesting topic on security and future of computer power.  One of the computers here (if made commercial) could crack todays RSA encryption in a second. interesting that the government might have this power. Or better yet a dude in Pakistan who got one in trade for a fat bomb. If you care a google link quantum computer code cracking

so i went to the doctor today to have him work on my foot, i always hate the foot doctor – he likes to chop me up and cause a lot of pain. Today was fun however he got this thing called a electrolysis system that makes me not feel anything. it was cool i cranked it all the way up till my foot shook ..obviously that wasn't helpful for him so i put it where i couldn't feel anything he was chopping. it was crazy. so after i left i got some stuff form the pharmacy – he was trying to find me in the insurance records and said out loud… “kelly dose your insurance still think your a girl” now it was a slip on the words but the place was packed and everyone heard him. now the funny part was that every single person in that place was looking at me …they didn't hear the guy say my name as loud as the 2nd part so they couldn't make the connection. i just replied yea happens all the time. man was it good; by far better then getting teen magazine in the mail.

rather quiet day, however more stuff broke then normal – so i actually worked. SMTP email died as well as some network stuff. I also accidently unplugged a server farm form the network and it was offline for 11 minuet. Lets hope that no one noticed. Oops. I removed a bunch of servers today that is always good work since its exercise to hall that heavy crap around. Ryan from the help desk came to visit today and pick up a little of what i do. Corbis just signed a deal with Marvel Comics. When you think about it that is sort of cool, we now have licensing rights to all of the images of Marvel. So think of all the cool movies you saw and are going to see. The images can be licence for use by us now. That is huge. I dont know who licence there stuff before (them?) but hopefully this will be a bad ass move for us. I just like that we now have a spider-man cardboard cutout at the front of our office now. People will think we are some comic company. Its also cool cuz we have lots of marvel swag around the office now. I hope that bill gates invites stan lee to visit the office some day.

so i went out and about today to see the results form the recent warming temp. according to NOAA the river is going to flood at 4am on the 19th at about 1 foot over the banks. in my adventures i talked to two ‘old guys’ who know the river like a brother. One said “thats a lot of water huh” the other who proved to be more useful said “it hasn't moved in two hours but i bet by midnight that it runs over” he had suspenders holding up his pants so i assume he is the wiser of the two. The other guy didn't even have hip waders on. I did get to go see the falls, where fun enough i got interviewed by King5 about what i thought about the river. they acted like i was some old man with suspenders. I just bullshitted, they were running from a van and not the full truck so that means they are going back to the station to uplink. So watch for me on the news at 5 tonight, i am wearing a green jacket and any human figure you see in the shots is me. cool.

i did get some time to run around and snap some pictures i also added them to my gallery.

i reloaded the style sheets for kellykeeton.com as well as refreshed the DNS for the domains that i had sitting around with nothing to do with them yet. (LindenLoop.com, BuntySoap.com RuntySoap.com StAnkeyBeer.com) notice the $imdb(Super Troopers) references? My future project is to get a site up i have some killer ideas for a good prank page. The linden loop is a future page for my neighbourhood site. Right now they all redirect to kellykeeton.com so dont think there is anything cool there just yet. Some day.

so recently I got around to watching a movie $imdb(Mulholland Dr) i actually chose it because i had been on the drive when i was in cali a while back and wanted to see if i recognised anything from real life in the film. For those of you who have seen the movie and just laughed out loud at that comment. the laugh is accepted.

for those of you who are wondering to what i talk about i have one word for you about this movie “WTF” if you like movies like $imdb(memento) and $imdb(se7en). Then this film will climb the top charts of your movie list. i am not kidding this film is more complex then anything i have ever set my brain on, now like any good new age nerd i immeaditaly googled “mulholland drive explanation” after watching it 2 times in a row. Until just today when my friend conor who watched it under recommendation found a site that explains it a lot better (dont read that page if you haven't watched it yet) its six pages of explanations just to detail how complex and amazing this movie is. I dont want to post the content on this page because of its slant from PG rating that i decided to keep here. But page 3 of that ‘review’ they start answering questions by giving a plot outline of the film the first paragraph is possible the best tagline i have ever, ever read for a movie.

basically as far as movies go this film is un-comparable to anything i have ever seen. later when talking about this movie with others i was told by a friend nic a great quote “i think the director made this movie to make you feel every emotion at once for one movie” 5 stars in kelly’s ‘wrong way on the one way street’ list.

so its 130 in the morning and because of all this rain we have had it flooded the generator room here at work – causing the fire suppression system to weird out and beep a lot. I just got done cleaning that up, there was a lot of water it was icky. When you think that people (including me) spit in that vent for the air intake then it all drips all over hrm… well i guess its natures way of antibiotics.

its Tuesday and Tuesday is tape day i don't like Tuesday it takes like 4 hours to deal with 120 tapes, its not very fun and if i don't pay super good attn to it it gets messed up then some restore down the line will be messed up because of me. so i never like this daunting task.

This post is mainly for SuperSusan

I went to Vetco today to pick up some parts for a little project I have. I recently got a new remote that is actually very cool. (Highly recommend) With this new remote power I can do lots of stuff with IR in my house now. With the new Denon I also picked up I can greatly increase my stereo options. Mainly using 5.1 with my huge Cerwin vegas. However the power amp isnt controlled by IR for that stereo setup. A side note that i am also haveing huge issues with some white noise comming from the preamp out of the denon. That will be for another day. Today i just got this new little device in the mail. I hope to hack some sort of relay system into this to switch the main for the bigger amp for the CV. sort of like this.

I think it just makes them more asshole-ilo, two weeks ago i went to cingular and asked to him my cell plan upgraded so i stop going over my minuet package (i use over 1000 a month!!) so they swear that i will get my package set correctly. Bill comes what do you think happened. Of course. So i go back the next week, this verse is the same as the first. So today i went back in again after work to argue some more this time saying that i would not leave the store until the computer says that i am on the new plan. wonder who won that battle? not me 45 mins later they got it done. (I doubt it still since the ‘live’ accounting says i am still on the old plan on the http)

but i did get to listen to a lot of sales pitches to old people at that time of the morning. One lady came in and wanted to get on the family plan with her family who allready was on cingular. She was on ATT. i was thinking well this should be fun. OH and it was. They started to try and get her family to upgrade to more minutes since they will have one more person on the cell plan. the lady explains that shit shouldn't matter since she only calls them. So she asks how can she save money. Well eventually the guy talks her into a new plan. Now this was the fun part, he then says to her. well you will need a new phone. I was like “jigga no way” yup they were going to charge her a new phone fee saying that the ATT phone is ‘outdated’ for the new network. So the lady is very reluctant, now this schlep is such a moron that the next words out of his mouth are, and i need to charge you a ‘service fee’ of  $15 to switch the account. what bullshit. I guess when you pay for a cell phone your not paying for the service. I walked out before hearing the end of it, but she was very upset so i doubt she did it. so just a word to the wise, you ain't saving anything by having cingular mob the ATT network.

In my new quest to find out what people do with a blog and more importantly how useful it is, to me or to anyone else. I have come across a page that helps with the searching of others blogs. http://bugmenot.com/ its a nifty little page that will give you logins for most of the crap sites out there. IE blogspot etc. but as a friend pointed out a nice use is for sites like nytimes.com and sites like that -they insist on having your email. I dont want to have a account for ever nancy page out there so i decided that this bugmenot is a useful one stop shop for all accounts for the pages that like to cookie you.

So this asp.net has been a adventure. Not knowing anything about .net only about asp. I am learning that i want to upgrade to IIS6 sooner then later. It has a lot better GUI for managing the asp applications on IIS. I have been seeing this blog crash every 3–4 hours. Couldn't figure out why. Then i went to Google for the answers. Turns out it was that my ASPNET service was running as a machine account. and that its just too low of security. When I overload IISlockdown it will remove all access to the %windir% and lock out the IWAM accounts. So i went to msdn and found a few articles

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306158

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315904

http://www.15seconds.com/issue/030115.htm

Edited my machine.config to use a secure local account. Set explicit permissions for that account, then bam site is back on line. with IISLockDown enabled. So once again I am secure as a tank and have a running page. Now with my current plans to upgrade the whole page to .net and learn VB.net i am going to have to buy a new server that can handle the server side of .net. Oh boy …..arnt you excited!

So about 3 weeks ago i got the killers  CD specifically for the track ‘Somebody Told Me’ KillersThen thanks to the XM radio over playing it like a crazy bastard i started to check out other tracks on the CD just this past weekend. ie ‘Mr. Brightside ‘  turns out that that track is sweet as well. However I am glad that i bought it at target for the low low price of 8.99 the day it came out. When i compare it to things like Frans ferd. i like that sound a lot better. This UK new (recycled) sound that is flooding all the music right now i’m not a terrible fan of but for the people who enjoy the 70’s punk of UK its not a bad cd. It reminds me a lot of cold play and sort of a branch of it. With trendy bands like snow patrol at its heals. dont look at me for definitive music opinion i just listen to channel 47 on XM and its where i hear the 11 bands that sound like one.

When its all said and done I jsut like the two tracks that i can hear on XM it would have saved me the $8 and i could just Download them.

I now have this nice little blog set up but am not the blogging type of person. Unlike the staff at Microsoft that is always talked about for having company secrets posted on blogs, like Microsoft just bought 100 new G5’s I dont know exactly what to blog about. The only time i read a blog is some nerd’s page that posts some way to defeat technology. I like that idea in a blog. Other then that its like reading a live journal of a co worker where you can just giggle about the personal life of another person you sort of know. I also like that idea. So i am going to start with a half ass idea of a blog that i will post nerdy shit as well as some product reviews and start trying to review all the movies i watch. Along with other shit that i find interesting. At least for the first month i am going to attempt to blog lots of shit no one cares about and see how my post count is going. if people like it and comment back i will keep it up. Otherwise i might just give up and go back to the once a month post. I do like this XML based .net and might switch my whole page to this format its real nice to maintain. so with that i will kick off this blogging fun. The more you comment back and hit count this page the more interest i have in keeping it up to date.

gotta have the First Post

This is the new code for KellyKeeton.com/blog I chose to use the DasBlog asp.net source. with a work space here its nice easy setup just edit xml for the major options. I chose this because i wanted a ASP solution that would run on IIS and have no database back end. This was compared to .text which I didn't like as much.
